The Effects Of Jealousy In Relationships
How do you view your partner or significant other? Regardless of whether you are married or not, think about how you feel about them. Do you feel proud to be with them and madly in love? Or do you feel jealous every time someone so much as glances in their direction?
There are many different situations which occur in between these two extremes of course, but there is no doubt that jealousy in relationships can lead to break ups if it is not solved as soon as possible.
How does jealousy in relationships affect the focus of that attention?
People who are subjected to a jealous partner often feel trapped and stressed as a result. They wonder why their partner does not trust them – and rightly so.
Most relationships don’t start out with jealousy as an overriding factor; those that do start like this tend to fizzle out very quickly, and it’s not surprising that this is the case.
But when jealousy in relationships develops – whether it’s on the part of the husband, the wife or the unmarried partner – that relationship can soon be in trouble. It’s a slippery slope too; some people become angry and insanely jealous if their partner comes in from work even a few minutes later than they normally would. The jealous partner immediately thinks they have been with another person, and even if that isn’t the case it can cause huge ructions between both partners.
The person who lives with a jealous partner will also start to worry about what their partner will think of their actions, even if they are entirely innocent. If they are stuck in traffic and will be late home, they know their partner will flare up when they get in, even if they phone first to let them know. Nothing is easy and this kind of jealousy in relationships can lead to a lot of stress and upset.
How does the jealousy affect the person who is feeling it?
If you are a jealous person, you will know how it consumes you. This is something that you could be living with for every second of the day – and if that’s the case you might struggle to get on with the rest of your life.
If your relationship is suffering through the effects of your own jealousy, you need to try and take a step back for a moment. Take a long hard look at what is going on. Why do you feel this jealous? What happened to set things off in the first place?
You will not get rid of your jealousy overnight, but going through the process described above – as well as getting appropriate help from other sources – can be the step towards recovery that you need.
Jealousy in relationships has already caused many people to split up. Don’t let your own relationship be added to that statistic – take the right steps now to make sure you get rid of it once and for all.
